Great optics for wide angle

I'm giving this a 4 out of 5 because of the expense! This is a well built product though. It is quite heavy on the front of the Bluefin Pro housing, but adding the optional float returns it to essentially neutral buoyancy underwater.

There are no instructions!! From tech support it was suggested that the camera be set up for "wide angle accessory lens". If you look closely, this is not simply a dome port, but actually a lens with a glass element that sits next to the camera's lens. There is still a gap in between for the red filter.

The field of view is much wider than with the standard flat port. Optics are clear and sharp. Some have mentioned some focusing issues at extreme zoom with this port on. I have not noticed this, however my philosophy of underwater imaging is to use as little zoom as possible. Everything is clearer and better color balanced by getting close to the subject. Zooming in to far makes for shaky and unwatchable footage - fine if you want your friends to experience vertigo when they watch your footage.

The product name should include Canon - using with Bluefin Pro housing and Canon HF-G10 camcorder.

Terrific lens, well worth its price. No distortion, no vignetting, full zoom through and best of it, it is also compatible with the new Canon camcorders (HG10)! I am using it with the Sony CX550V in a Stingray G2+ housing (the previous name of the current Bluefin housing, but otherwise with identical functionalities). Pretty much anything fits in the field of view of this lens (I still have to meet a whale though) and at full camcorder zoom (x10), it make for very decent macro shots (you can't use the flippable macro-diopter with it, so you want get the same kind of close-ups as with the flat port, but still, you wan't lose a macro opportunity when one shows up). The only down size is it is as massive as it is expensive (I guess you pay for the glass), so the housing tends to be nose heavy. No deal breaker and this can be compensated for with floats (which I haven't done myself). An indispensible accessory (not provided with the lens, unfortunately) is a thick lens cap, as you don't want this baby to get a dang when handing it to the dive master on the swimstep or while in the rinse bucket...
