Brilliant pictures, amazing bokeh

Several years ago I made the switch to mirrorless and I have never been happier. A small package (even with housing and accessories) producing fantastic stills and video. There was one problem however, my primary interest is macro and I have been waiting patiently for the Sony crew to get this lens to market. Despite waiting longer than I would have liked, it was well worth waiting for. The quality of this lens is evident out of the box. The internal focus feature of the lens makes it a great lens for underwater since the port can match the lens easily reducing any distortion effect. Min focus distance of 5" from the end of the lens to the subject will allow me to finally really get in to those tiny subjects I have been chasing.

About the size and weight. Yes, it is a bit larger and heavier than my other lenses, however the lens fits very nicely into my hand when shooting topside and the small size of the camera body makes the overall package quite manageable underwater. It took a little adjustment in my float arms to find the best balance point, but overall it is still very stable in my hands.

In full disclosure, I use a Sony Nex-6 with a Recsea housing. I love this particular housing because it essentially extends the controls of my camera to the housing, which is key since so much of Sony's function is in menus. Recsea does not offer a port for this particular lens, however Bluewater staff was fantastic in working with them have a custom port made for me. The port exceeded my expectations with it s size and features such as a focus knob in just the right position that extends the manual focus of the lens to my fingertips (I prefer manual when shooting macro). It will take a little more practice to get used to using the lens underwater, but I am looking forward to every minute since it is such a beautiful and functional setup. I would give both Bluewater and Sony 10 stars each if I could.
