I had the old style Ikelite DS-50 strobe. I did not like that the only way I could control the amount of light was to move the strobe around constantly and angle it away from the subject.
This DS-51 is great. I can control the intensity of the light with the six manual controls. I use this with my Recsea S100 housing with Canon Powershot S100 camera. I mostly shoot macro so this really helps so it is not overexposed.
I highly recommend this strobe. For my macro, it is the right amount of light for me.
Scott was very helpful so I could be sure I was getting all the correct parts to make my
system work. Thanks. Keep us the great service.

I have used this strobe for years. I normally use two for macro work, and I carry at least one extra as backup on trips. They are small, light, and create virtually no drag in the water. The power switch and output adjustor are about the right size, and easy to operate. Light output can be adjusted easily, and fine adjustments can be made by moving the strobes towards or away from the subject. They are rugged and dependable. The new models have a clear battery compartment cover, which might help to detect leakage in the early stages. One down side to this product is the battery compartment is not sealed, so if it floods, the strobe floods. I would recommend that the owner of these strobes not flood them.
