The Inon UCL-G165 II ZD is a wide close-up lens developed specifically for use with action cameras such as the GoPro® HERO13 Black. It addresses the inherent limitations of deep focus systems in action cameras, which typically cannot achieve sharp focus on subjects within close range—approximately within 60 cm (2 feet)—when underwater. This makes standard GoPro cameras unsuitable for macro shooting below the surface without additional optical accessories.

Unlike traditional macro lenses for compact digital cameras, which often result in vignetting and a shallow depth of field when paired with wide-angle action cameras, the UCL-G165 II ZD is designed to maintain image clarity and support a functional depth of field (DoF) underwater. When mounted on a GoPro HERO13 Black, the lens provides a DoF ranging from approximately 10 cm (3.9 inches) to 35 cm (1.1 feet), measured from the front element of the lens. This allows for more practical focusing capabilities underwater while still capturing fine detail in close-up subjects.

The Inon attachment lens for GoPro features a slightly increased angle of view compared to standard close-up lenses, contributing to better framing while maintaining close working distances. It connects via the Inon ZD bayonet mount, enabling rapid and secure attachment or detachment underwater.
