Sony FX2 Underwater Housing

Sony FX2 underwater housing
Your Sony FX2 Underwater Housing Guide by Anthony Grote, June 2025

As with the Sony FX3/FX30, we at Bluewater Photo Store recommend a variety of Sony FX2 underwater housings to support your underwater work with the Sony FX2 camera. Our recommendations includes housings from Ikelite, Nauticam, and Marelux, each offering different features for specific underwater needs.

The Sony FX2 is a full-frame cinema camera designed for compact production setups. It features a 10.2MP back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor and supports 4K recording up to 120fps in 10-bit 4:2:2. The Sony FX2 uses the E-mount lens system and offers dual card slots compatible with CFexpress Type A and SD UHS-II media. It records in XAVC-I and XAVC HS formats and includes advanced autofocus with real-time Eye AF. As part of the Sony Cinema Line, the FX2 integrates well into professional workflows, offering timecode input/output, full-size HDMI, and optional XLR audio via the Multi Interface Shoe.

The Ikelite FX2 underwater housing models are constructed from a corrosion-resistant polycarbonate blend and rated to 60 meters. These housings offer mechanical access to key controls and compatibility with Ikelite’s Dry Lock port system.

Our favorite anodized aluminum housing for the more budget concious buyer is the Marelux FX2, which is similarly rated to 100 meters and includes full mechanical controls, dual O-ring seals, and support for multiple lens port options. Each FX2 water housing integrates into our existing underwater workflow depending on the dive conditions and project requirements.

The Nauticam FX2 underwater housing units are built from anodized aluminum, depth-rated to 100 meters, and include integrated handles, vacuum systems, and M16/M24 bulkheads for accessories.

Ikelite Sony FX3 Underwater Housing

*Affordable & Sturdy*

At Bluewater Photo we recommend the Ikelite Sony FX2 200DL Underwater Housing for our Sony FX2 cameras to those who are budget concious, and also that prefer to travel with a lighter more compact setup. The Ikelite FX3 housing is constructed from corrosion-resistant ABS-PC blend material and rated to a depth of 60 meters. It provides mechanical access to essential camera functions and includes a clear back for visual confirmation of sealing.

This FX3 underwater housing is compatible with the Dry Lock (DL) port system, allowing us to use a variety of lenses underwater. The housing includes a vacuum valve for optional leak detection and supports M16 bulkheads for connecting external accessories. Since the Sony FX3 underwater housing and Sony FX30 underwater housing share the same body design, we can switch cameras without needing a separate housing. The FX3 water housing is equipped with a tray and handles for stability and integrates with our existing Ikelite housing components. We rely on this Ikelite underwater housing setup for a compact and modular underwater workflow.

The Sony FX3 underwater housing and Sony FX30 underwater housing share an identical layout, making it easy to switch between cameras without adjustments. Designed with standard M14 and M16 bulkheads, this FX3 water housing supports both professional and recreational diving applications.

Nauticam Sony FX2 Underwater Housing

*Excellent Ergonomics, User-friendly, Durable*

At Bluewater Photo, and among many dive professionals, Nauticam remains a trusted option for underwater camera housings. In our case, the Nauticam Sony FX2 Underwater Housing is a go-to solution for both the Sony FX3 and Sony FX30. Constructed from anodized aluminum and depth-rated to 100 meters, the Nauticam FX3 housing meets the demands of our underwater filming environments. It offers full mechanical control over all key camera functions, which is essential for both video and still photography underwater.

The FX3 underwater housing includes built-in handles, a vacuum system for leak detection, and supports the Nauticam N100 port system, which we use with various lenses depending on the shoot. M16 and M24 bulkhead ports allow us to connect external monitors and other accessories without issue. Because the Sony FX3 underwater housing and Sony FX30 underwater housing are identical in layout, we can move between camera bodies with no changes to our configuration. This FX3 water housing integrates well with our broader Nauticam housing setup and supports the tools we rely on for professional underwater work.

Following on from the popularity of the Sony FX3 for underwater use, we anticipate the FX2 to have a similar impact for underwater filming. The main reasons for the FX3 popularity were due to its compact full-frame design, excellent 4K 120p video quality, and reliable autofocus system. Its lightweight body made it ideal for underwater housings, and widespread support from housing manufacturers like Nauticam, Ikelite, and Marelux made integration into underwater setups straightforward. The FX3’s ability to capture high-quality footage with 10-bit 4:2:2 color and its compatibility with professional audio and video accessories also contributed to its appeal for underwater filmmakers.
