The Inon UCL-G55 ZD is a specialized close-up lens engineered to enhance the underwater macro capabilities of GoPro cameras and other action camera systems. Action cameras like the GoPro HERO series utilize wide-angle, fixed-focus lenses, making it difficult to achieve sharp focus on small, close-range subjects underwater. The UCL-G55 ZD is purpose-built to overcome this limitation by enabling ultra-high magnification while maintaining image clarity and minimal optical distortion.

This lens is part of Inon’s UCL-G series and offers the highest magnification among all models in the lineup. Specifically, it provides a 4x scale ratio magnification compared to the UCL-G165II, making it suitable for photographing minute sea life such as nudibranchs, shrimp, or fish larvae.

Due to the optical nature of close-up lenses, the depth of field decreases as magnification increases. The UCL-G55 ZD compensates for this by including a Focus Stick accessory, which assists users in maintaining a consistent distance between the camera and the subject. This helps minimize camera shake and focus drift—especially critical at this level of magnification. Inon recommends the use of a tripod for optimal results, particularly when recording video or working with fast-moving or light-sensitive subjects.
