Nauticam's new release of carbon fiber float arms brings innovation and control to underwater photography! A heavy camera system is something that every underwater photographer dreads. They can be cumbersome, tiresome, and difficult to maneuver. Average foam floats work make these systems more buoyant underwater, but they are bulky and compress starting at 100 feet. Nauticam's carbon fiber float arms solve all of these problems! They enable camera systems to range from slightly negatively buoyant to slightly positively buoyant with a streamlined design. Moreover, carbon fiber float arms double as high quality arms....something every serious underwater photographer needs.

For quite a while I struggled with a housing, arms, lights and strobes that made my rig more than a couple of pounds negative underwater. By the end of most weeks of diving my back was pretty tired and sore. I replaced the factory strobe arms with 4 nauticam arms and did it ever make a difference. My air consumptin improved almost 20% and my back stopped hurting at the end of my dive trips. Now instead of expending a lot of energy just trying to keep the rig aimed at the subject, I can move it around and shoot images and video without having to fight the extra weight. I was a little concerned that replacing the manufacturer's arms with the nauticam arms would add a great deal of extra complexity for assembling the rig on my trips. While it does take a bit longer to connect all of the equipment together, the addition of the arms did not add much complexity and gave me a bit more flexibility in strobe and light placement. On one of my recent trips I did come back with one of the floats having water in it. Nauticam replaced the float promptly and efficiently.
Here is a timelapse movie of me putting the rig together with the Nauticam arms. Its not real time but it is still pretty easy.
