Ikelite Canon R7 Underwater Housing with fiber optic ports

Ikelite Canon R7 Underwater Housing [Fiber Optic Update]

The Ikelite 200DLM Canon R7 underwater housing is a fully equipped, ready-to-dive solution designed to solve the two biggest challenges of underwater shooting with the EOS R7: reliable sealing and dependable strobe communication. This Canon R7 housing ships with core components already in place—including a Fiber Optic TTL Transmitter, dual tray with dual handles, vacuum leak detection system, and spare O-rings—so you’re not piecing together a system before your first dive.

Built from Ikelite’s custom ABS-PC blend, this Canon R7 waterproof housing balances strength with travel-friendly weight. It’s lighter than aluminum housings but robust enough for regular scuba use, snorkeling, surf work, pool shooting, and other in-water applications. The clear housing body is a real-world advantage we see customers appreciate immediately: you can visually confirm camera status, control engagement, and check for any moisture before small issues turn into big ones.

Flash integration is handled via an integrated fiber optic TTL transmitter, enabling automatic flash exposure with compatible Ikelite fiber optic strobes and in-camera flash exposure compensation. Legacy Ikelite DS strobes can still be used with full TTL by adding RC2 Fiber Optic Receivers, while non-Ikelite fiber optic strobes are supported in manual mode. The vacuum leak detection system lets you pre-check the seal before entering the water—something we strongly recommend during setup and travel days.

Every housing is built in the USA, assembled with a camera installed, and pressure tested to 200 ft (60 m) prior to shipping. Controls are provided for nearly all camera functions, with the exception of the diopter adjustment slider, depth-of-field preview button, focus mode switch, and full multi-controller movement (press-in only)—a tradeoff worth noting if you rely heavily on those controls underwater.

  • Best for: Still shooters using fiber optic strobes who want simple setup and visual leak awareness.
  • Not for: Divers expecting electrical sync or guaranteed optical TTL without checking strobe compatibility.
  • System approach: Optical strobe triggering via fiber ports (no electrical bulkhead assumed).
  • Support note: A common pre-sale question is whether existing Ikelite electrical sync cords can be reused—this Fiber Optic Update is designed around optical, not electrical.

Key Features:

  • DL Port System - The housing uses the DL Port System. The system o-ring placement is located outside the port mount which improves the o-ring visibility and reduces the chances of water dropping. It attaches quickly and securely. When using zoom lenses and select lens focus rings can be engaged using simple gearing that puts adjustment right at your fingertips. A large, soft-touch knob on the side of the housing makes fine-tuned adjustments a breeze. This is one of our favorite gear knobs on any housing. Yeah, it's just a knob, but it isn't until you use an Ikelite housing that you realize how nice it can be to have a large knob!
  • Vacuum System - The included Ikelite Vacuum Kit allows you to draw out air and check if your housing is completely sealed before diving. This provides you the peace of mind and assurance that your camera is safe inside the housing while underwater.
  • TTL Exposure - An integrated fiber optic TTL transmitter communicates the camera's flash signals to compatible Ikelite fiber optic strobes for seamless flash integration and accurate exposure on every shot. Flash exposure compensation can be added or subtracted effortlessly in-camera. Use legacy Ikelite DS strobes with full fiber optic TTL functionality by adding an RC2 Fiber Optic Receiver to each strobe (not required for newer Ecko Fiber and RC-series strobes). Non-Ikelite fiber optic strobes can be used in manual exposure modes only.
  • Control and Setup - The ergonomics on Ikelite housings is great. The shutter and AF-ON levers stand out with super sensitive and natural feeling curved levers. All push-button controls are machined and hard anodized aluminum to reduce weight and resist salt build-up. The back of the housing is laser engraved with control symbols which will never fade or fall off. The camera mount is front-loading for easy installation and removal. A small mounting plate attaches to the bottom of the camera and secures in the front of the housing.
  • Viewfinder - The housing includes the Super-Eye Viewfinder provides an enhanced view of the camera's optical viewfinder when viewed through a dive mask. The viewfinder removes quickly and easily for the attachment of an optional Straight Magnified Viewfinder (Type 1) or 45° Magnified Viewfinder (Type 3)
