The Kraken Video Lights offer high performance at a lower cost, making them an ideal option for all levels of videographer. The Kraken Hydra 5000 includes a flood, spot, red and UV beams, making it a truly a universal light. An optional remote control allows for easy adjustments directly from the handle of your tray.
The light head of the Kraken Hydra 5000is water resistant, which protects the expensive light elements in case of a flood. While you'll likely have to replace the battery, but the light head will still be functional.
I use a pair of the 5ooo lumen lights for shooting video. The color, power and size cant be beat, especially for travel.
The light beam is wide and casts an even amount of light throughout the frame. You can also change the beam angle for a more direct spot style light for illuminating a subject while leaving a darker background. This is awesome for creating greater contrast.
The lights burn time are also easy to manage. Dont forget the remote for this one too!
Bottom line: having a video light with replaceable batteries is the only way to go. Once owned a light that couldnt swap batteries and it always died halfway through the day. Compact and powerful. Great tool for creating high caliber images.
I have owned two kraken hydra 5000 video lights with remote for nearly two years now. I've also owned multiple lights over the years, fantasea, lights in motion (absolutely over rated and I’ve owned two sets of their lights), sea life to name a few. None of them compare to this setup. The light control is simply outstanding. The light output is superb, especially for the money. Powerful, evenly spreads across a wide field of view. Even with a Gopro, which has a very wide FOV, these lights fill up the entire scene evenly and the remote gives me all the control I need in order to avoid hotspots. With a Sony RX100 v,, WOW! Not as powerful as strobes for pics but absolutely does the job for 75% + of the pics without having to wait for a recharge. Very handy considering the camera’s high burst rate. Super easy maintenance and easy portability to boot.
I will say that I am by no means a professional. This is a hobby for me that I have always struggled with. This light system, especially with the RX100 v, definitely stepped up my output in a very big way without having to spend huge money for large systems, which are super expensive.
The way I see it, unless other manufactures come up with a competitive solution you would be wasting your money elsewhere. I haven't tried the lower light output versions but I can’t imagine them being any different than the 5000’s besides light output.
Super job kraken sports.
