Marelux Lumiflux 1000 underwater focus light with mounting ball and fiber-optic connection

Focus Light + Apollo Remote Trigger

Marelux Lumiflux 1000 Focus Light

A high-CRI white and red underwater focus light that can also trigger Marelux Apollo strobes positioned away from the camera.

The Marelux Lumiflux 1000 is a 1000-lumen underwater focus light with a 60-degree beam, a powerful 500-lumen red mode, and CRI 92 color rendering. Its standout function is a dedicated wireless trigger mode that lets a housing-connected Lumiflux trigger compatible Marelux Apollo strobes without running a fiber-optic cable all the way to the off-camera strobe.

This is particularly useful for wide-angle photographers placing an Apollo behind coral, beside a subject, or farther out on a lighting stand. It also works as a practical white or red aiming light for macro, blackwater, night diving, and general low-light autofocus.

  • Best for: Marelux Apollo users, off-camera lighting, night dives, macro, and wide-angle photography.
  • Main advantage: Combines a capable focus light with Apollo wireless strobe triggering.
  • Compatibility: The focus-light function is broadly usable; the remote trigger function is designed for Marelux Apollo series strobes.
  • Key differentiator: Reported triggering at roughly 15 m with the Apollo at a 90-degree position under suitable conditions.
  • Tradeoff: At 210 g negative underwater, it is heavier than many compact focus-only lights.
  • Why Bluewater: Get system-level advice from underwater photographers who configure housings, triggers, arms, and strobes daily.

What does the Marelux Lumiflux 1000 work with?

The light can be mounted on many underwater camera rigs as a conventional focus light. Its specialized wireless strobe-triggering function requires an optical signal from the housing and a compatible Marelux Apollo series strobe.

Works With

  • Underwater camera rigs with a suitable light arm and clamp
  • Housings with an available fiber-optic flash port
  • Marelux Apollo series strobes in wireless trigger mode
  • Mirrorless, DSLR, and compact systems that can provide an optical flash signal

Requires

  • One 21700 3.7V lithium battery no longer than 75 mm
  • Compatible battery charger
  • Fiber-optic connection from the housing to the Lumiflux
  • Arm, clamp, or mounting point appropriate for your rig

Optional Gear

  • Marelux Apollo strobe for remote off-camera lighting
  • Long or articulated arms for wide-angle positioning
  • Additional clamps or an underwater light stand
  • Spare battery and backup fiber-optic cable

Feature 1

High-CRI white light with an unusually powerful red mode

The 1000-lumen white beam gives the autofocus system contrast in dark water, beneath ledges, and during night dives. CRI 92 is also useful when the light is used for close-range viewing or as a modest continuous light because colors appear more natural than they do under many low-CRI utility lights.

The 500-lumen red mode is especially notable. It gives you substantially more red output than many compact focus lights, helping the camera see the subject while reducing the intensity of visible white light around shy marine life.

  • 60-degree beam covers a practical focusing area without being excessively wide
  • Four brightness levels help balance visibility, runtime, and subject behavior
  • White and red modes support both macro and wider compositions
  • Red mode is useful for nocturnal and light-sensitive subjects

Feature 2

Remote Apollo triggering for more creative wide-angle light placement

Run a short fiber-optic cable from the housing to the Lumiflux, select wireless trigger mode, and use the light to transmit the firing signal to a compatible Marelux Apollo strobe. This removes the need to route a long sync cable from the housing to every remotely positioned light.

Marelux reports triggering at roughly 15 meters when the Apollo and Lumiflux are positioned at 90 degrees to one another, and about 3 meters with a 180-degree relationship. Treat those figures as setup references rather than guarantees because visibility, ambient light, suspended particles, strobe orientation, and line of sight can change real-world performance.

  • Useful for backlighting, side lighting, silhouettes, and cave or wreck accents
  • Reduces the cable management involved in off-camera strobe placement
  • Supports wider separation between the housing and lighting position
  • Best results come from a clear optical path and careful receiver orientation

Feature 3

Built for full dive days, with straightforward two-button control

The anodized aluminum body is rated to 100 meters and uses a replaceable 21700 battery. One control changes operating mode, while the second adjusts brightness, so you do not need to cycle through every output setting each time you want to dim the light.

Maximum-power runtime is rated at two hours. That is sufficient for many two-dive camera schedules when the light is dimmed between subjects, although carrying a charged spare battery remains good practice on liveaboards and multi-dive days.

  • 100 m / 330 ft depth rating for recreational and many technical profiles
  • Low-battery indicator flashes red when it is time to change or recharge the cell
  • Replaceable battery is easier to manage than a permanently sealed power pack
  • Included-style mounting ball integrates with common arm-and-clamp rigs; ball diameter should be confirmed before publishing

Buy With Expert Underwater System Support

Marelux designs underwater housings, ports, strobes, lights, and optical accessories as parts of a connected imaging system. The Lumiflux uses an anodized aluminum body, replaceable battery, serviceable O-ring seal, and 100-meter depth rating for regular photographic diving.

Bluewater Photo can help confirm the complete signal chain—not just whether the light physically mounts to your rig. That includes your camera flash settings, housing trigger, fiber-optic connection, Apollo model, mounting hardware, battery dimensions, and intended off-camera placement.

Marelux Lumiflux 1000 FAQ

Will the Lumiflux 1000 work with my underwater housing?

It can be used as a focus light on many rigs when you have suitable mounting hardware. Using its trigger function requires an available housing fiber-optic port, a compatible optical signal, and the correct cable connection.

Can the Lumiflux trigger strobes from brands other than Marelux?

Marelux specifies wireless triggering for its Apollo series strobes. Do not assume that third-party strobes will respond correctly; contact Bluewater Photo before building a mixed-brand remote setup.

Does the Lumiflux 1000 support TTL flash exposure?

The Lumiflux transmits an optical trigger signal but should not be assumed to create TTL compatibility by itself. TTL depends on the camera, housing trigger, camera flash settings, Apollo model, and selected operating mode.

What battery does the Marelux Lumiflux 1000 use?

It uses one 21700 3.7V lithium battery, and the battery must be no longer than 75 mm.

How long does the Lumiflux 1000 run at full power?

The rated continuous runtime is two hours at maximum output. Lower brightness settings should reduce power consumption and lengthen runtime.

Why would I use the red focus light instead of white?

Red light is useful for night diving, macro, and light-sensitive subjects because it is less visually intrusive than a bright white aiming beam. The Lumiflux provides up to 500 lumens of red output, which is unusually strong for an underwater focus light.

Can I use the Lumiflux 1000 as an underwater video light?

It can provide close-range continuous illumination, and its CRI 92 output is useful for natural-looking color. Its 1000-lumen output and 60-degree beam are better suited to focusing or small subjects than full-scene wide-angle video.

How should I maintain the Lumiflux after a saltwater dive?

Rinse the sealed light thoroughly in fresh water and press each control several times during the rinse to remove trapped salt or sand. Dry it before opening the battery compartment, and inspect and clean the O-rings regularly.
