Isotta Sony A7 V Underwater Housing — red anodized aluminum, 100m rated, shown front-facing on white

ISOTTA UNDERWATER HOUSINGS

Isotta Sony A7 V Underwater Housing

Italian-engineered aluminum precision for the world's most capable mirrorless camera — rated to 100 meters.

When our team of expert underwater photographers put the Sony α7 V through its paces for our comprehensive Sony A7 V underwater review, the results confirmed its status as a premier hybrid full-frame system. Nirupam, one of our in-house professionals, rigorously field-tested the camera's partially stacked 33-megapixel sensor and advanced AI autofocus in real-world conditions—from low-light environments to fast-paced macro and wide-angle scenarios. To truly maximize the camera's ultra-fast readout speeds, enhanced tracking, and 7.5 stops of image stabilization underwater, you need a housing built with matching precision.

The Isotta Sony A7 V Housing is an Italian-crafted, full-aluminum waterproof case engineered to do exactly that. Designed specifically for working shooters who demand flawless ergonomics at depth, this housing features direct, engraved button access to every essential camera control down to 100 meters. By pairing Sony's highly customizable menu system with Isotta's robust, double-O-ring mechanical design, you gain absolute control over your exposure triangle when every second counts. The housing ships ready-to-dive with a standard ISOTTA viewfinder, an integrated LED humidity sensor, and dual fiber optic ports, offering serious shooters a rugged, dependable platform for world-class underwater imaging.

Best For: Full-frame underwater photography and video with the Sony A7 V
Main Advantage: Fully machined red-anodized aluminum body — lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and built for daily dive use
Compatibility: Fits Sony α7 V; uses ISOTTA bayonet B120 port system (ports sold separately)
Key Differentiator: Back housing is fully detachable from front — makes lens swaps and servicing far easier than competing designs
Flash Integration: Two fiber optic bulkheads standard; optical trigger required separately to fire strobes

Why Photographers Choose the Isotta A7 V Housing

Isotta has been manufacturing aluminum underwater housings in Italy since 1997. Every housing is machined aluminum, built by hand, and tested before it ships. The A7 V housing reflects that lineage: every button is aluminum, every dial is engraved with the matching camera symbol, and every moving part has double O-ring seals.

What separates the Isotta from Nauticam and Ikelite in the A7 V space is the detachable back design. The entire back housing separates from the front — meaning you can swap lenses, service O-rings, or access the port system without disassembling the whole rig. For photographers who shoot different focal lengths on the same trip, this is a genuine workflow advantage underwater.

The housing also comes with a standard ISOTTA viewfinder and humidity sensor with LED indicator included — things that competing brands often charge extra for.

Key Features Explained

Detachable Back: Real-World Flexibility at Depth

The back housing on the Isotta A7 V separates completely from the front. In practice, this means you can change lenses between dives faster, inspect O-ring seats more thoroughly, and service the housing without tools in the field.

  • Faster lens swaps between dives on liveaboards
  • Easier O-ring inspection and service access
  • Single-hand closing knob locks the back securely
  • Tray-and-lock camera insertion system — no fumbling

Engraved Aluminum Controls: No Guessing Underwater

Every button and dial is machined aluminum, engraved with the same symbol used on the Sony A7 V itself. When you're at 30 meters adjusting exposure, you want to find the right control by feel and recognition — not trial and error with generic levers.

  • Symbol-engraved controls match camera layout exactly
  • Aluminum construction — no flex or play at depth
  • Double O-ring seals on every button and removable part
  • Wide back display viewfinder glass for monitor shooting

Humidity Sensor + Vacuum Ready: Protection You Can See

The built-in moisture sensor with LED indicator is your early warning system. If humidity rises inside the housing before a dive — a sign of an O-ring issue — the LED alerts you before the camera gets wet. The housing is also pre-drilled and configured for the ISOTTA vacuum system, which gives you leak detection during descent, not after.

  • LED moisture sensor included — replaceable battery
  • Pre-configured for ISOTTA vacuum system (sold separately)
  • Port safety lock prevents accidental porthole opening
  • Three M16 + one M24 accessory holes for monitors, vacuum, sync

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Isotta housing compatible with the Sony A7 V (ILCE-7M5)?

Yes — this housing is designed specifically for the Sony α7 V (ILCE-7M5). It is not compatible with A7 IV, A7R V, or other Sony mirrorless models without a different housing.

Does the housing include ports for my lens?

No — ports are sold separately. The housing uses the ISOTTA B120 bayonet port system, and you'll need to select the correct flat or dome port for your specific lens. Check the ISOTTA port chart or contact Bluewater Photo before ordering to confirm port compatibility.

Do I need anything extra to fire strobes through this housing?

Yes — the housing includes two fiber optic bulkheads, but you will need a separate fiber optic strobe trigger to use them. The manual/ttl flash trigger and hotshoe bulkhead will also need to be purchased for your camera.

Is the vacuum system included?

No — the housing is pre-configured and drilled for the ISOTTA vacuum system, but the vacuum unit is sold separately. We strongly recommend adding the vacuum system if you're diving regularly, as it provides positive leak detection before you enter the water.

How do I maintain the O-rings between dives?

Inspect all O-rings before every dive, clean the seating surfaces, and apply a thin coat of the included silicone lubricant. Replace any O-ring that shows cuts, nicks, or deformation — the included replacement kit covers the most critical seals.

How does the Isotta compare to the Nauticam A7 V housing?

The Nauticam has a larger port ecosystem (N120) and is the industry standard for complex multi-lens systems. The Isotta offers a detachable back housing, an included moisture sensor, and a generally lower price point. If you're starting fresh with the Sony A7 V, Isotta is a compelling aluminum alternative — if you already own N120 ports, Nauticam makes more sense.

What's the working depth of this housing?

The Isotta A7 V housing is rated to 100 meters (approximately 330 feet). This exceeds the working depth of most recreational and technical diving, and is on par with the Nauticam A7 V housing.

Can I use my existing ISOTTA ports from another housing?

ISOTTA uses a standardized B120 bayonet port system across many of its housings — however, port compatibility depends on the specific lens and extension tube combination required. Contact Bluewater Photo with your existing port list and we'll confirm whether they'll work with this housing.
