This light is AWESOME. I use it for shooting night video with my GoPro and it floods the area with plenty of light with no howspots in the video. I have recommended this same light to friends and at least one other purchased it and feels the same way as I do! Can't beat the no mess of not worrying about flooding the light either.
I also highly recommend Blue Water Photo... I live in Hawaii and they've been a huge help whenever I've had questions and they have always made sure I got just what I needed for the task at hand!
I purchased the Sola dive 1200 from Bluewater photo in October 2011 and have used it once in the carribean, soon to be thoroughly tested in Thailand.
I had a different video light beforehand, but I found that the beam edge was very sharp - not great for shooting video angle video because you can clearly see the hard edge in the frame as you move. So after some research went with the Sola 1200 - the beam is very bright and has a nice even drop-off for video. The ability to switch between spot and flood is a great feature. My *ONLY* small beef is that the battery indicator lights, although nice and bright on land, seem fairly dim underwater. small beef though. This is a great product all around. *note: the Sola "dive" and "video" are the exact same light, just different color and come with a different mount.
I purchased one of these lights from BlueWater about 9 months ago. I wanted a focus light and ended up buying the hand mount version with additional ball mount for camera mounting and have since used it in both modes. As a focus light, this is a great light. I have also had great success using it as a video light (although a second one would be ideal). Using it as a hand mount light, this has become my primary light for night diving and it really works well. Run time is about an hour in cold water (38 F) conditions. Nice feature is that when the light cuts out at full power setting it can be throttled back to 2/3 or even 1/3 setting, extending the run time further. Unit is also very compact and is ideal for traveling. One criticism: The velcro straps on the hand mount is a bear to adjust while using neoprene gloves and I replaced these with bungy cord and that works well. Would recommend the product based on my experience to date.
