The Light & Motion Sola X Underwater Video Light with Burst Mode is a unique continuous strobe hybrid, which is a game-changer for underwater lighting, since it does away with the requirement for separate strobe and video lights. Having the two options available in one set-up seems to make sense. Light & Motion Sola X allows you to effortlessly switch between 20,000 lumens burst or 10,000 continuous light with a simple user dial and fiber optic trigger, thus giving you the option to shoot stills or video with a simple flick of a switch. Its unique feature is its smooth transition between strobe and continuous modes, which eliminates the long-standing conundrum of choose between strobe and video illumination.

The second feature which is a game changer for stills photography, is the ability to shoot at high frames per second. With the ability to fire at 30 fps, with zero lag or recycle time, this is a revelation, especially when considering camera's like the new Sony A9 iii (with it's global shutter), and the Nikon Z8, with a frame rate of 20fps.

Recharging the Sola X's swappable batteries takes only 80 minutes. A single battery is enough to power 10,000 bursts at 30 frames per second or 10,000 lumens continuously for 40 minutes. Fully charge a battery in 80 minutes, or bring along an extra battery for use on shorter surfaces.

Light & Motion have thought even further ahead, with what they call "field swappable modifiers", giving the flexibility to shoot macro or wide angle. This range of modifiers delivers light in 12,36, 60, and 115 beam angles (measured in water). A 60 degree optic will deliver twice the lux on the subject compared to the dome at 115 degrees.
