This is our favorite strobe for the compact camera user, or beginner dSLR shooter. It's small, powerful, and has excellent TTL capability.
Almost everyone who buys a strobe has trouble learning how to use it properly. The Bluewater photo team won't let that happen to you - we know this strobe inside and out, and have tested it with dozens of various cameras. Call us at 310-633-5052 with any questions!
* This strobe does NOT include a ball mount, if you want a ball mount you'll need the Ultralight AD-SS
Don't forget to buy a spare tube of Sea & Sea's silicone grease.
We dive with our products all the time. Please call the Bluewater Photo team at 310-633-5052 with any questions, or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
This strobe is nothing like the old strobes (bigger & heavier) I was used to and what better place to have bought it at then Bluewater Photo. I really like the small size for traveling, its built rugged, has lots of options for controlling the flash and great recycle time. It works great with my Olympus 6020 and PT-048 housing and I know when I move up to another camera and housing that it will still do as excellent job as it does now!
The other good thing is that the guys & girls at Bluewater Photo are passionate about what they do and I know anytime I need help with something or suggestions they are there to help. How much better can it get!
This is my first strobe, purchased along w/a Canon S95 and Recsea housing. The unit was compact, easy to use the controls, and easy to maintain and change the batteries. The sync worked flawlessly and I could get two 1 hour dives out of a set of rechargeable batteries. I don't have much to compare it to, but I have no complaints and I took some awesome pictures with this set up (For a rookie!).
Scott and the staff @ Bluewater were excellent at listening to what we wanted, educating us about underwater photography and our options, and then setting us up with the perfect system for our needs. I can't say enough about the service we received.
I am a 1 year experienced diver and when I started wanting to share what I was seeing I bought a disposable camera. Wow these pictures are so dark.
Strobe is amazingly easy to operate and does an incredible job. The only thing that could make it better is another one.
I purchased the YS01 Strobe before my last dive trip in April. I'm new to underwater photography and was looking to upgrade my dive camera package and after speaking to the team Blue Water Photo selected this strobe for my Cannon G12. Overall I'm really pleased with the results although I need a lot more practice. The overall quality is great, recycle time is very quick, the focus light function is great in low light situations and overall I'm very pleased with the purchase, I cant wait to get in the water again and work on my technique. My pictures came out great and now I'm considering a better housing and possible second strobe, so this was a great first strobe.
I have little to no idea what I am doing with underwater photography, but the strobe along with my S100 have already taken better pictures than I ever thought I would be able to. So far the only hiccup I have had is that on one dive the strobe would not turn on at all; no guide light, no firing. Still have no idea why. I checked the batteries were in the correct orientation, closed it back up and it worked the next dive. I assume it was an id10t user error. I would definitely recommend this strobe, especially if you don't have a dedicated focus light.
Been an 'above-water' photographer for 38 years and dove into underwater photography this past year for the first time. The folks at BWP were extremely educated about all the products and didn't try to over sell me.
I took their recommendation and went with the YS-01, tray, arm, etc. to get me and my Canon S100 underwater for my first time. The flash worked flawlessly and actually outlasted the battery in my camera. I'll get a 2nd flash at some point but the single flash worked really well. The only shortcoming i experienced wasn't the flash, but user error and inexperience in learning how to shoot under water. Next time my photos will be much better (i hope!).

I purchased this strobe to go along with my Canon S-100. It was recommended by Scott at Blue Water and I have been very pleased with how it works. I found Blue Water to be extremely helpful and definitely will go back for future underwater camera needs.
